The Wurzel family has three generations who have been serving the insurance needs of Florida families…amounting to over 75 years of experience, starting with Eugene Wurzel who began selling insurance in Winter Haven, FL in 1955 with Life of Georgia Insurance company. In 1957 he joined Allstate and went on to be an Allstate honor ring agent, retiring in 1979 with 24 years of experience.
Following in Eugene’s footsteps, Bob Wurzel put down roots in Ft. Myers, FL with his wife Marcia and began working with Allstate in 1972, back when Allstate had kiosks in Sears. When Allstate allowed agents to open their own neighborhood sales offices in 1985, Bob and Marcia were one of the first in Florida to do so. They were then able to customize their office into one that revolved around strong personal customer service; a theme that runs through the Wurzel family business.
Bob and his wife Marcia sold insurance through Allstate for 29 years. They were also recipients of Allstate’s prestigious honor ring award for more than 20 years; The Honor Ring has been Allstate’s symbol of outstanding achievement for more than 40 years. Bob and Marcia sold their book of business in 2001 but remain active in the insurance community.
Robert Wurzel began working in the insurance industry in 1999 and has followed in his parent’s footsteps in opening his own independent insurance shop, The Wurzel Insurance Agency, located in Oviedo, FL. Robert got his insurance license while in high school and had his first taste at running an agency at age 18 while his parents, Bob and Marcia Wurzel, took a much needed vacation, leaving their successful Allstate agency in Robert’s capable hands. It was through this experience Robert knew he would start his own insurance agency and follow in his grandfather Eugene Wurzel and his father Bob Wurzel’s footsteps.
Robert worked as an insurance agent at an Allstate agency in Oviedo while receiving his business degree from the University of Central Florida. He then transitioned to sales and office manager of a local independent insurance agency helping to grow the book of business over 400% in just a few short years. His thorough knowledge of the industry gives Robert a keen sense to know exactly what market will best serve his customers needs, in turn, making them customers for life. Robert is married, and he and his wife Anne-Marie, a local Realtor, reside in Oviedo.
We’ve often been told that our logo is unique and been asked if there’s any meaning behind it. We did put quite a bit of thought and effort forward in designing the logo. The tree has meaning not only because it’s a family tree, symbolizing the the three generations of Wurzel’s in the insurance industry, but the word Wurzel actually means “root” in German. The tree symbolizes the family roots in insurance and the longevity included in the Wurzel name. The three branches represent the three generations that have worked in insurance. The leaves represent the couples starting with Eugene and Lillian Wurzel, Bob and Marcia Wurzel and Robert and Anne-Marie Wurzel. The tree lends itself to “branch out” and be passed down; branches and leaves would be added to the tree in each generation and the tree would continue to grow.
The tree logo was carefully created and designed by Melissa Wurzel, Robert Wurzel’s sister, who is the Director of Marketing at Florida Virtual School.
When I first started listening to talk radio, one of the first programs that I found I enjoyed listening to was The Dave Ramsey Show. I was drawn to it because it wasn’t a show about politics, but about money and how to properly handle it. And it wasn’t talking about super complex ideas or strategies, but more just common sense type advice. Dave’s principles about living within your means and having a plan for your money really resonated within me and went along with the principles I grew up being taught that if you couldn’t pay for it, then you shouldn’t buy it.
And as I continued to listen, I really began to enjoy listening to the callers share their stories about their struggles and successes. Some of the calls sounded very similar to ones that I was facing, and to hear Dave’s take and advice about it helped me make a better decision for my family and myself.
As I continued to listen to the show, I would hear Dave talk about his Endorsed Local Providers–or ELPs. When my need for help on Investing and Health Insurance arose, Dave’s ELP site was the first place that I turned to find someone who could help me (and I still use them today).
One afternoon in 2009 when I was listening to the show, Dave mentioned they were expanding their ELP network to include Home & Auto Insurance and were looking for well-qualified agents that had a heart of a teacher to apply to their site. Since this was how I have always done business, the decision to apply was a no brainer.
A year after I had applied, I received a call one afternoon from one of Dave’s team members asking if I was still interested in becoming an ELP. They explained the process would involve a number of interviews so they could get to know me and that I was competing against a number of other agents. The process was lengthy, but well worth it as they offered me the endorsement in 2010 for the East Orlando area.
The relationship was an immediate success for everyone, and because of the continued success Dave’s ELP Team helped me expand into the North Orlando, South Orlando, and Titusville areas.
ELPs earn Dave’s endorsement—you can’t buy it.
Being an ELP isn’t easy; it’s hard work because ELPs are held to a higher standard of excellence. While ELPs do pay a fee to cover website maintenance and employment costs, Dave’s endorsement is not bought—it’s earned. We have a 45-person team that interviews potential ELPs several times and provides support to make sure your ELP provides the advice Dave would give. We also make sure that every ELP is someone you feel comfortable talking to and is a person you can trust.
On top of that, we evaluate the performance of all ELPs every month to make sure we recommend you to the best agent possible. Also, every person who uses an ELP has a chance to grade them based on their personal experience through surveys we provide.
ELPs give great customer service and are easy to understand We make sure each of our ELPs truly has the heart of a teacher, so you can trust your ELP to provide top-notch customer service. No one likes to be talked down or made to feel as if they don’t matter. Our ELPs take pride in the fact that they treat each Dave fan like a friend.
The ELP program is designed to help you make money and save money
It’s simple! If this program didn’t benefit you, we wouldn’t do it.
Why use an independent insurance professional?
A shocking number of people overpay for car and home insurance without realizing it. An independent insurance professional works for you, not the insurance company. They are not limited to a single insurance company’s plans. Independent agents can search dozens of policies from many reputable companies. And best of all, it’s absolutely free to use an independent insurance professional!
